Allied Outdoor Solutions is a Houston-based company that specializes in updating or replacing concrete for people’s homes for their driveways, pool decks and outdoor patios. They use Carvestone, their own unique brand of concrete overlay that is known for its long-lasting ability as well as it strength and looks. Many homes in Houston have utilized Carvestone for their homes and their product is endorsed by local Houston personalities such as Randy Lemmon of “Gardenline.”
Allied Outdoor Solutions was seeking a way of obtaining a greater presence on the Internet and garnish the attention of customers in Houston when they hired Server Side Design (SSD) to do a Search Engine Optimization (SEO) campaign for them. They embarked on a 15-keyword campaign, selecting keywords that reflected their business and appealed to potential customers in the Houston area.

Server Side Design optimized the web site by adding keyword rich content to the home page along with a weekly news section which has fresh content added every week. In addition, SSD created several keyword-rich landing pages which helped establish Allied Outdoor Solutions as an authority in their industry. This new SEO architecture, along with frequent onsite article and blog posts has helped push Allied’s natural search engine rankings to page one of the engines.
The results since Allied Outdoor Solutions hired SSD in September 2010 have been outstanding. When SSD first began the SEO campaign, the keywords chosen by Allied Outdoor Solutions were at either zero or scored very low on the three major search engines – Google, Yahoo and Bing. By March 2011, the chosen keywords have ranked on page one for eleven of the 15 keywords on ALL THREE major search engines. For example, “concrete coating Houston” was at a ranking of zero at the beginning of the campaign in Sept. 2010. As of Jan. 31, 2011, the same keyword now shows up on Page One of Bing, Google, and Yahoo. This keyword and 10 others went from non-existent to Page One giving Allied 31 total page one listings.

Houston Overhead Garage Doors is a full service garage door company in Houston. They specialize in installing and servicing garage doors of all makes and models for both commercial and residential locations.
Challenge and SEO Strategy
In February 2010, Houston Overhead Garage Doors (HOD) came to Server Side Design (SSD) seeking ways to boost their web traffic by increasing their presence on the web as well as reducing the cost per conversions on their pay per click ads. Since there are many similar businesses in the Houston area, HOD faced the difficulty in standing out in a huge metropolitan area. In order to set them apart from the rest, SSD devised a strategy that would gain them a larger presence on the web and establish them as a knowledgeable and skilled leader in the garage door industry.

SSD instituted a 30-keyword SEO campaign using phrases that were designed to draw interest from potential customers and, at the same time, highlighted their business offerings. Using proven SEO techniques, SSD optimized the HOD website by adding static content through the 30-keyword campaign and updating the site constantly with fresh content using weekly news articles, which were placed on the site’s home page. This content gave HOD credibility as a leader within their industry and was able to net them No. 1 page rankings organically on many of the top search engines with several of the keyword phrases. In addition, continuous blogs and onsite articles attributed to the rise of HOD on search engine pages.
Pay Per Click Campaign Overview & Results
SSD also implemented a pay-per-click campaign that drove web traffic to the HOD website while at the same time lowering the cost-per-lead from $58 to $42.90. Placing ads on search engines like Google and Yahoo! using select keyword phrases related to the garage door business, SSD was able to deliver positive ROI to HOD.

SSD executed a call tracking system for HOD, which tracks the number of business calls that they were receiving. HOD previously had no way of knowing how many calls were coming from their online marketing efforts.
HOD received 58 calls as of April 2010 and by February 2011, HOD had received 75 (including six online conversions) for a total of 81 conversions
- The cost per lead in April 2010 was $58. The cost per lead in February 2011 was $42.90, 26% reduction in costs per leads

- HOD experienced a 39.6% increase in lead volume as a result of SSD’s PPC campaign over the same period of time.
SEO Results
HOD’s web presence increased significantly with Page One rankings:
- 13.63% increase in Page One rankings since February 2010.
- 200% increase in web site traffic from that time thanks to the implementation of SSD’s SEO and PPC campaign.
HOD’s natural web traffic has increased by almost 150% and more web surfers in search of garbage door-related subjects in the Houston and surrounding areas were driven to HOD’s website due to the efforts resulting from SSD’s 30-keyword campaign.
Writing fresh and static content for each keyword phrase, SSD was able to net high rankings on search engines for HOD. The more web surfers saw how high HOD was ranking on the search engines, the greater the chance for these visitors to click on the links. The results showed that certain keyword phrases that were optimized by SSD were driving visitors to HOD. Specifically for “Houston overhead door”:
- 271 visits to the HOD site since December 2010 for the phrase ‘houston overhead door”
- 53.87% of these visits representing new people.
- 12,000 visitors have come to the HOD site since SSD began their SEO campaign in the past 12 months

John Moore Services is a home repair company located in Houston, TX that specializes in plumbing, electrical, air conditioning, window replacement, pest control and insulation. They have been established in Houston a long time, since 1965, and have since garnished a solid reputation for being one of the top home repair businesses in the city. Their vans are commonly seen in and around the Houston area and most know them by name. Over the years, they have expanded their business to include areas around Houston such as Baytown, Crosby, Katy, Sugar Land, League City, Friendswood, Tomball, Pasadena, Deer Park and many other surrounding cities.
In 2009, John Moore Services decided to redesign their website in-house and in the process, changed the page names on all of their web sites. This meant that the search engines were not able to read their sites as they had in the past and John Moore’s web rankings dropped severely. Their rankings dropped to low positions on the local maps. According to Server Side Design's (SSD) reports, John Moore Services’ rankings dropped as much as 75 percent after the web page was redesigned.
At that time, John Moore Services turned to SSD, Inc. for help. And SSD was able to deliver in a huge way.
“We implemented an aggressive campaign that resulted in bringing John Moore back to the top of the search engines lists as well as increasing their web traffic,” said Roger Janik, SSD president. “Our team was able to bail them out with our expertise in web designing, copywriting, programming and overall knowledge of how the algorithms of search engines like Google work.”
Embarking on a 125 keyword campaign, the SSD team began writing articles and blogs with the keyword phrases inserted in them and submitted three times a week on the John Moore website. This gave them a continuous flow of fresh content that search engines picked up on easily. Some of the articles and blogs were also submitted to blog and article submission sites, giving them much more visibility. SSD also wrote and submitted press releases every week to sites that distributed them to sites all over the Internet. A comprehensive link building campaign was also implemented. Links to John Moore websites, built by SSD designers, were submitted to 80 social link building sites per month. This increased John Moore’s overall visibility on the Net and helped them to rise to No. 1 on page rankings with most of the keyword phrases.

At the beginning of the campaign, John Moore Services had a total of 55 page one rankings for the top three search engines (Google, Bing and Yahoo). At the end of the 10-month campaign, they had a total of 235 page one rankings for the same top three search engines. That is a 235 percent increase in page one rankings on the best search engines available on the Internet. As a result, John Moore’s web traffic increase by as much as 40 percent and more people started seeing John Moore’s name come up when typing in effective keywords relating to their business.
“The John Moore campaign is a sterling example of what our company does – helping clients obtain higher visibility on the Net,” Janik said. “More and more people are turning to the Net as a source of information and it is replacing traditional resources of information such as telephone books. The Net is where people are finding out information when they need a plumber, or an electrician or an air conditioning repair technician. This gave John Moore top billing, so to speak, on the Internet and people started calling them instead of other companies to meet these needs. I would say this is one of the most successful campaigns we have accomplished.”

New York Guest is a hospitality marketing company that assists travelers to New York City. Located in the heart of Manhattan, New York Guest helps travelers with their hotel reservations, tours of the city, Broadway and sporting event tickets, airport transfer and other items. All of this is geared toward making a traveler’s trip to New York City a successful one. New York Guest also assists corporate clients and groups as well as providing wholesale room reservations to domestic and international travelers.
Richard Williams is the head of New York Guest. He had not previously advertised his company and decided it was time to obtain a greater presence on the Web. It was through chance that he discovered Server Side Design, (SSD) Inc.

“We were discussing search engine optimization (SEO) possibilities,” Williams said. “The first set of players were too high priced and offered cookie cutter responses. It was by searching on the Web that we found Server Side Design.”
Williams said he discovered the people at Server Side Design to be flexible, honest and helpful.
“I think the thing that we have learned during the SEO process is that you need a good group of technicians,” Williams said. “(SSD) combined this with a client who is committed to continually revising and expanding the content. While the technical tweaking is a critical element, the content drives the long term viral growth.”
Williams added that there was also a sense of trust at Server Side Design. This, he claims, was the main factor in hiring Server Side Design to help with their Web visibility.
The team at Server Side Design began to re-design New York Guest’s Web site, wrote content with keyword phrases that attracted the attention of search engines, and their site rankings began to increase.
Using 28 different keyword phrases on Bing, Google and Yahoo!, New York Guest’s visibility began to increase on the Web. The listing for these keywords rose up and, in some cases, they went all the way to No. 1. Twenty-five of the keywords were listed in the top five positions on the search engine sites, while 44 of them were listed in the top 10 positions.
All in all, the high rankings led to increased traffic for New York Guest. When New York Guest first hired Server Side Design in April 2009, they were averaging about 450 visitors per week. As of Sept. 30, New York Guest was averaging about 900 visitors per week, an increase of 100 percent thanks to the efforts of Server Side Design. This equals double the amount of traffic in less than six months time.

Williams was pleased after seeing the increase of Web activity after hiring Server Side Design.
“Our utilization of the Web is evolving and has changed considerably since we re-launched,” he said. “We have seen a marked up kick in activity and a corresponding improvement in our position on key word pages. Time on site has been strong, indicating an interest level in the material.”

WaterGallery.net was started by Doug Gardner in 2007 as an Internet-only business that offers handcrafted, indoor water fountains that are designed to fit on walls or floors and made with stones, pebbles, copper, marble, glass or stainless steel. Gardner was acting as a wholesaler for the fountains, while another company actually manufactured and shipped them.
Gardner ran the business from his home in Tallahassee, FL. He had established a Web site, designing it himself with little outside help.
“It was a hodge-podge set up,” Gardner said. “It wasn’t accepting payments and it was not very sophisticated.”

Gardner had also purchased a single Google ad for his business.
“I was basically doing the marketing for the business on my own,” he said. “The Google ad was not very professional and garnered little response.”
The visibility of his Business on the Web was low at best. In his first six months as owner of WaterGallery.net, Gardner made a marginal profit, which barely covered the cost of advertising.
Seeking ways of giving his business a stronger Web presence, Gardner began to search for a search engine optimization (SEO) company that could take over his pay-per-click campaign, re-design his Web site, provide content with the right amount of keywords, increase his site’s rankings and market his site. He did a search online and found SEMPO, an industry organization designed to promote search engine marketing in general. The first call he received was from Server Side Design, Inc..

RANKING RESULTS:
Before hiring ServerSideDesign.com, www.watergallery.net had only three listings on pages one and two of the Top 10 major search engines. None of the listings moved up or down. The site had a visibility score of 1.35 percent. The site only had seven listings on Yahoo! and six on Google.
After six months of hiring Server Side Design, www.watergallery.net received 91 listings on pages one and two of the Top 10 major search engines. Thirty-three of these listings are on page one! As of March 2008, the site has 52 listings on Google and 39 on Yahoo! This sites overall visibility score has raised to 19.53 percent.
